Belle's World - Past, Present, Future

DO you live in the Past, Present or Future?

Birthdays and New Years are two times that many people start reflecting on the past or even the future. All around us, we are told that we need to live in the present (especially with the proliferation of technology) and get back to being in the moment. Each individual has a baseline time mindset. However, many people are not aware of what it is.

Here is a baseline of living in the past, present or future. FYI - time is a human construct and there really is no such time as time in the past or the future. We as a species decided to make time our method to move through our journey of life. (Along with other words and concepts like success, wealth, etc that are topics for another day)

Past - Going beyond reminiscing about the past but doing things as they were done because it feels good and familiar. Living there because you feel like you can never get to that happiness level again.

Present - Feeling, experiencing, touching what is around you in the current moment of time

Future - Seeing the possibilities of the what could be and being in a state of anticipation to make it happen

I live in about 50% Future, 40% Present and 10% Past.

My mind state personally spends a lot of time thinking about 1. What needs to be done to make the future come to life 2. What the future could look like. The first part is great but the second part is basically day dreaming, if I don't actually put systems and processes in place to make it happen. As an entrepreneur, it's been one of my struggles as I have to visualize what my future looks like and also build it without a team (As a corporate executive, you had teams to help you accomplish projects and moving business forward).

As we go into 2018, I started reflecting on my future (my base line state). I took a moment, to see what didn't work in the past and reflecting on what truly works for me. I realized I needed a little bit of structure to help bring the Present to 60%, Future to 30% and keep the past at 10%. This is important for me because I see the visions of the future and my role is to help others build it. My role is to support the folks who have the ability to change how we live, work and play. I bring other collaborators who fill their need gaps to truly be successful in building tomorrow. I have to spend time in the present building the platforms and structure to connect the right people when I see opportunities or ideas that others don't see.

If I don't change my baseline time mindset then I can't actually accomplish what I dream about the future. This is the critical change I need to make for myself for the coming year and being able to be aware of your challenges, is one step forward to accomplishing whatever it is that's driving you on your journey of life.

DO you need to change whether you live in the Past, Present or Future?
