Belle's World - Noise

What noise around you is preventing you from moving forward in your journey?

At the end of week of cold weather, in Dallas, I met a friend to catch up on life. We met at the bar area of a restaurant. Since it was a Friday night it ended up being much busier than most of the times I've been there. About an hour in, I realized that it was in fact a very noisy bar. Not noisy, in the way most people would think. It was noisy to me because I couldn't hear the conversations of the people around me as I watched them interact with each other. Some would say I am eavesdropping but its not the actual content I care about, its the types of conversations and the behaviors that happen that interest me. As someone who works with people all the time, I am constantly observing human nature. A bar is an absolute wonderful place to do that. When I am hearing the conversations I notice how they act, react and interact with the people around them. It also gives me glimpses into the human element of what really matters to people and what makes them happy or sad (and many other emotions).

All of us have noise in some part of our lives. With all the changes occurring in our lifetime the noise is increasing. There are so many aspects of life that we need to sift through to understand what is relevant to us and our journey. Change is happening at a very fast pace.

* Increased Focus on self-awareness and the human element * Extended life expectancy (average life span is close to mid 70's) * Four generations in the workforce * Multiple full time careers over a lifetime * Larger populations living in non traditional / non static lifestyles * Cultural paradigm shifts that are changing how we live, work and play * Exponential acceleration of all types technology in both the business and personal arena

Technology acceleration is a beast in of, itself. Technology is affecting every aspect of our life - live, work and play. Yet how does one individual keep up with everything and understand what is pertinent to their job or their personal life. Yet it is critical in every market that we have people who are focused on a specific type of technology so that it can continue to be built. There is noise on what priority technology plays in how we shop, how we live, what we buy, our lifestyles, what information is presented to us and in the future even how we think. How do you sift through it all?

In the past, change took years or even decades to happen. Today you can see the change in our lives week to week. How is this affecting your personal life? How does this integrate into your job? How does this affect large hierarchal corporations on their decision making? How does it affect how we interact with each in society? What are the political implications of these changes? Each question brings about more Noise.

How do you decide which Noise to focus on to what is relevant to you?
